Acclaimed author Katherine Paterson will be in New Hampshire on Tuesday, May 17 as part of the Humanities Council’s Connections literacy program. Paterson will offer a talk on her work at 7 p.m. at The Palace Theatre in Manchester. This event is free and open to the public but preregistration is suggested.

A two-time winner of the Newbery Medal (for Bridge to Terabithia and Jacob Have I Loved) and the National Book Award (for The Master Puppeteer and The Great Gilly Hopkins), Paterson has won almost every award a children’s book writer can win, both in the United States and abroad. She is one of only four Americans to win the Hans Christian Andersen Medal, an international honor that recognizes an author’s lifetime achievements and in 2006 she received Sweden’s Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Her most recent novel, The Day of the Pelican, tells the story of a refugee family from Kosovo.

New Hampshire Humanities Council

The New Hampshire Humanities Council is a private non-profit organization that strengthens New Hampshire by providing free public humanities programs in its communities. While the Humanities Council's mission is specific to New Hampshire, we are not part of the state government. We are part of a national network of Humanities Councils affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities. We rely on individual, corporate, and foundation support for our diverse programs, which foster reflection, discussion, and civil debate where people live, work, study, and play.
